la costumbre (kos-toom'-breh)

noun ( habit, custom )

Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Then the Word of the Day winner will be chosen!

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Tomo la costumbre de correr 4 milas cada mañana.

I am in the habit of running 4 miles every morning.

2. Como de costumbre, pedí un deseo antes de apagar las velas.

As usual, I made a wish before blowing out the candles.

Here in my country there is an ancient custom, which is held in the spring. It is performed by little girls, dressed in typical traditional costumes. They go from house to house, singing songs. This ritual is done for health, fertility, family wellbeing and rich harvest.

Gracias a Carlos:

Aquí en mi país hay una costumbre antigua, que se celebra en la primavera. Se lleva a cabo por las niñas, vestidas con trajes típicos tradicionales. Van de casa en casa, cantando canciones. Este ritual se hace para la salud y fertilidad, el bienestar familiar y tener una rica cosecha.

  • Tu pelo largo está fluyendo en la brisa.
  • Tu sonrisa es brillante bajo el sol .
  • Mi amor, ¿cuándo me mirarás desde mi ventana?
  • As usual, you walk by my window in the morning.
  • Your long hair is flowing in the breeze.
  • Your smile is bright under the sunshine.

Every person likes something different. For some people it can become a custom to watch sunset. For others to watch sunrise. Or to walk in the streets during the moonlight. Because every person in the world is different and unique. Sometimes the sun seems to be so small but it has so big influence on our Earth. Aslo the moon. They are so powerful things that they influence the tide.

A cada persona, le gusta algo diferente. Para algunas personas, mirar la puesta del sol puede convertirse en una costumbre. Para otros mirar salida del sol. U andar en las calles durante la luz de la luna. Porque cada persona es diferente y única en el mundo. A veces el sol parece estár tan pequeño, pero tiene una influencia tan grande en nuestro Globo. También la luna. Ellos son cosas tan pontentes que los influyen la marea.
