Hello everyone, I said andale, andale, because I heard it on a cartoon, to someone, and they said that it was only used in Mexico. I just wanted to know if this was true.

Yes, it is regional of Mexico the way it is used in your question! Only in Mexico it is also used in other way different than "to walk"! , Well, "maybe" in a couple other countries in Central America as well. - farallon7, Apr 13, 2012

I second pacofinkler! Andar = To walk, but in Mexico it is used not just for walking, but to say "Yes", "I agree" or even, "I remember/That's it" --- For what I understand! I.E.

  • When used as keep on moving, hurry up! or keep on walking! = Ándale, muévete, ándale hijo! (Go son!)
  • When used as a "yes" = ¿Te dijo que te fueras? Answer = Ándale (Did he/she asked you to leave? Yes!
  • When used as "I agree" = ¿Quieres que te ayude? Answer = Ándale! (Do you want me to help you? Yes!
  • When used as "I remember/That's it!": ¿Cómo es que se llamaba ese tipo alto? Mmm, ¿Carlos? Ándale! What was the name of that tall guy? Mmm, ¿Carlos? That's it!
  • So, when you hear, ¡ándale, ándale, ándale!, your mind goes immediately to "Speedy Gonzalez"

It is not really regional. In Mexico you will hear "ándale" or even "anda," which is probably more used in Spain than in Mexico.

¨Ándele " is definitely used in Mexico, the imperative of andar with "le" attached go' move 'advance' there (pointing)
