Does anyone have any tips on how to easily learn my Spanish vocabulary words? I find it extremely difficult to learn them all in the very limited amount of time my teacher allows. Any help will be appreciated, Thanks!

You could use this site to make flashcards and go through them that way. I try to think in my mind a picture of what the new Spanish word is. That way my brain doesn't have to go through a translation step.

Go to flashcards then click the button that says: Create flashcards. By the time you practice several times with the recognize, listen and spell functions of the flashcards, you might be able to learn them a little faster.

Hey,

I too had similar problems. But I have found several ways to learn Spanish in a very small amount of time. If you're teacher is like mine, we would receive a word list that has the definitions and words on the single sheet of paper. Immediately I would set out to find cognates. Cognates are words that are both similar in English and Spanish in both sound, and spelling. After finding these cognates I would look for words that I can give my self a clue from. For example pulsera(the Spanish word for bracelet). I would remember this by pulse. From pulse I can think about the location wrist, as one of the areas to take a pulse. After this I would simply know that it is bracelet. After these 2 ways, it is just simply memorizing. Several ways can help you study. You can make flash cards, quiz(with a friend or by yourself) or use several of the different ways provided in this wonderful site....

hope this helps, nflrocks123

I would use flashcards. If you have time to make ones with pictures, that is even better. Find someone who speaks Spanish and practice having a conversation using the vocabulary. A friend in the class or a native speaker.

For Spanish class, I used old fashion index cards with the work on one side and the definition on the other side and that worked great for the vocabulary words we had every week. I would always carry a stack or two in my pocket book and if I had to wait in line or in the doctor's office, I would take them out and review them. I also made flashcards here and have my whole Spanish book on flashcard sets here at SD. Another good site for flashcards is memerise. It has many great sets on many different topics (not just Spanish). You should check it out.

One way to learn Spanish words is to use the science of mnemonics. Instead of defining this term, let me give you some examples. "Caballo" is horse. Picture a U.S. map, and in California is a big ball. On this ball is a horse balancing itself. CA BALL, and then the horse doing a balancing act, and then you will be able to supply the "o" yourself. "Cinturon" is belt. Picture a belt with a bunch of pennies (cent) stitched or glued on it. That will get you close enough. Cabeza = head. Picture someone standing on his head at home plate (or any base) next to the horse balancing itself on a ball. Both are in California. It takes more effort to create these silly images, but once you've created them, they are easy to remember. You can use a memory device called the "Roman Room" to link words together. I'll let you just look that up. To get the "Z" in cabeza, you can picture Zorro standing on his head on a base in California, or the person doing the balancing on his head getting ZZZZapped by lightning. I hope you get the picture. The idea here is to use your visual memory...it's stronger than your verbal memory.
