Hola, buena pregunta.
In English, you might be reading a phrase as a statement, only to discover it was a question. That initial ¿ lets the reader know it's a question.
If you want to get philosophical, the English speakers are doing it wrong. I mean, why in the world would you only put one "?"...psh, the best things come in pairs! ¿?
Also, notice how Spanish doesn't have the word "did" or "do" in questions as we do in English. The ¿ acts as the word "did" or any other form of "do."

It's just a different rule of punctuation that evolved into the language, just like the use of dashes instead of quotes. I like this rule because it makes it clear what is a question (rather than a statement) from the beginning.
Mi opinión es porque indica donde comienza la pregunta y donde termina. Espero te sea de utilidad la respuesta, la verdad nunca me pregunte eso! Entonces....yo podría preguntar: ¿Por qué en Inglés sólo usan el símbolo al final de la pregunta?
Its something you cant ask :D its just the way it is..same as in arabic for example, the question marks is flipped like this " ? "
Welcome to the forum Khyrazan, I think that is a great question, I would like to know myself, why in spanish, they write the question mark two times. I will be waiting for the answer.
Le facilita a la gente. Le indica cuando va a ser una pregunta ó no
that is just the way they do it. I guess it also lets you know that it is a question from the beginning. I dont really know though
Possibly just to make it different from other languages. I looked it up and there were no answers. Very good question. I wish I knew the answer.
