When do we use estar and when ser. They both mean to be

ser is for nationality, occupation, colour, size, character, permanent things mostly and ser is for location, position and temporary states such as mood or health - melaniejg, Apr 5, 2012

Although the use of "ser" and "estar" is a very extensive topic, in basic terms, you could say that "ser" implies permanance or intrinsic values or qualities. "Estar" is used mostly for things of transience, such as moods, feelings, location, most illnesses, etc.

As many would tell you, many times there may be some confusion on which verb to use. For those situations, you will need to supply specific content in your questions.
