Direct Object Placement

If you have a sentence that has "verb+def+infinitive," can you place the direct object at the end of the infinitive?

Example:

I stop smoking them (cigarettes). Yo los dejo de fumar. (correct, right?) Yo dejo de fumarlos. (is this correct?)

There are three occasions when you can attach the object pronouns to the end of the verb: Infinitives, gerund, and imperative:

  • Infinitive: Dejé a fumarlos = I quit smoking them
  • Gerundo: Estoy viendolo = I am watching it
  • Imperative: Hazlo = Do it.

Correct smile

In sentences with two verbs, there are two options regarding the placement of the direct object pronoun.

Place it immediately before the conjugated verb. Attach it directly to the infinitive.
