To be together

To be together

I was just translating this sentence 'She wanted to get together but my life was too empty at that time to make it work.' here. But am not 100% sure on the best way to translate it.

Does this work? or sound weird? smile

Hi Kiwi,

I would say:

Ella quería que estuviéramos juntos OR

hacerlo funcionar (too literal)

"To get together" sounds to me like she wanted to meet me, she wanted to go out and get some dinner or something. (reuinir[se])

On the other hand, I would have said, "she wanted us to be together" (Quería que estemos juntos). I think we would need that "us" otherwise it might seem a little vague as to "who" is together. wink

I guess it's just preference, Kiwi. smile

Brady -- you need the past subjunctive after quería (estuviéramos OR estuviésemos) - francobollo, Apr 3, 2012
