"Were diminished" in Spanish?

Question

How would you say "were diminished." As in:

"...if the minimum drinking age were diminished"?

We've learned all the tenses in Spanish class now, and I just have a hard time keeping them all straight! Thanks in advance!

Hello Poppy,

I think it would be better to use "decreased/lowered" instead of "diminished" in English.

That being said, in Spanish you could use a word like "bajar" or "disminuir."

1. "..... si estuviera/estuviese disminuida la edad mínima permitida para el consumo de alcohol"

2. ".... si se disminuyera/disminuyese la edad mínima permitida de consumo de alcohol"

3. ".... si se bajara/bajase la edad mínima permitida para el consumo de alcohol"

I'm sure there are other ways to say it. But these are the ways that occur to me.
