sabroso (sah-bro'-soh)

adjective ( tasty, delicious; nice, pleasant; juicy (story) )

Link: post picture instructions

Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The sentence with the most votes will be crowned the Word of the Day winner!

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Yo esperaba que él me cocinara algo sabroso, pero sólo obtuve un plato de gusanos. Bueno, es día de los inocentes de abril.

I expected him to cook something tasty, but I got a plate of worms! Well, it's April Fools April..

2. Escuché una canción muy sabrosa ayer, pero no me recuerdo el título.

I heard a nice song yesterday, but I don't remember the name.

I don't know why the spacing on this looks the way it does. - rac1, Apr 1, 2012
I.m not sure this is the right place to ask this..but why is Esperaba in the imperfect rather than the preterit and if the main clause is in the past shouldn't - patc, Apr 1, 2012
whoops, lost it. If the main clause is past shouldn't the dep. clause be imperfect subjunctive? - patc, Apr 1, 2012
Happy April Fool's! :D - cheskasullivan, Apr 1, 2012
where is the word of the day in the first sentence?! :) - shama807, Apr 1, 2012

El verdadero amor no puede ser sabroso siempre, porque también es sazonado con la pena del extrañar y la amargura de los celos / True love cannot always be sweet, because it's also seasoned with the pain of missing and the bitterness of jealousy. enter image description here

Dear Desert_Rose, I think you should not use words like this here on this site. This site is a good site where words like yours should not be posted. Please, do not get offended, I mean it in a good way. Kind regards. - iana01, Apr 1, 2012
Iana, it's a fairly normal expression, it is not swearing. ( not in England, in Sweden it would be). - annierats, Apr 1, 2012
In Sweden words with a sexual connotaion are not swearwords however. But words containing the devil etc are. - annierats, Apr 1, 2012
Annierats, thanks for explanation. But, well, different country, different culture, different point of view, different words.... In some countries it can be swearword. Kind regards. ;) - iana01, Apr 1, 2012
Relax, Iana, relax, in this instance. or , go to hell, as you please.. - annierats, Apr 1, 2012

Typo: "aburrido"... Tal vez no diríamos que es "sabroso", sino "agradable", aunque podría tener algo de sentido decir que es "sabroso" dependiendo de las actividades que hagas... Sabroso se usa más que todo para la comida. - -cae-, Apr 1, 2012
Tthank you teacher. :) then, I will eat spanishdict. lol - shama807, Apr 1, 2012

Maybe in Spanish we wouldn't use that word (sabrosos) for such situation, because it would sound a little... sick. Use it to describe food or tropical music. - -cae-, Apr 1, 2012
Lost in translation. Thanks for the tip. - Noetol, Apr 1, 2012

Sólo puedes decir que la música TROPICAL es "sabrosa", por ejemplo la salsa, el merengue (que por cierto tienen nombre de comida), no puedes decir que las baladas son sabrosas =) - -cae-, Apr 1, 2012
In the US, especially among musicians, the terms "tasteful" and "tasty" are pervasively applied to music, even ballads; it has nothing to do with a nexus to food, but speaks to performances, orchestrations or interpretations done in "good taste." - TejanoViejo, Apr 1, 2012
Tienes razón, no tiene nada que ver con el hecho de que tengan nombres de alimentos, pero es una curiosa y graciosa coincidencia que puede servir para recordar. Gracias por el dato. - -cae-, Apr 1, 2012
