Estoy mirando por una ventana y los peatones son pasabas por.

I am looking through a window and pedestrians are passing by.

My question is, can a Spanish sentence end in "por", a preposition, or do I need to use something more?

No, I have never seen that.

The problem with this sentence is that is it more of a literal translation. I would suggest something like: estoy mirando por una ventana y veo que los peatones están pasando.

Son doesn't work for this sentence because you need the verb "estar" for actions. Pasar already gives the idea of walking by in this sentence, so you don't need any extra words!

I see you have kept the participle and that is an important part of my sentence. Muchas gracias. - bandit51jd, Mar 30, 2012

Hola.. En español, las oraciones nunca terminan en una preposición. Sólo lo he visto en inglés y en francés. No sé cómo será en otros idiomas.

Tienes que decir donde o quien o porque después de una preposición.

You have to say where or who or why after a preposition.

eg: por allí (over there), por mí mama (for/because of my mother), por muchas razones (for a lot of reasons)
