How would I say that " I was freaking out!!"

I need help with a phrase, I can't seem to find what I am looking for. Can someone help me translate " I was freaking out!".

I don't know if this is true throughout the Spanish-speaking world, but in Madrid, a person would say, "Estoy flipando." This means, "I am flipping out." Of course this is slang.

The past tense would be "Estaba flipando," if it happened over time.

"Estuve flipando," if your freaking out was a one time event that is over and done.

You have to be a bit more specific. To freak out has different meanings.

Desmadre can be used for a party.

Loca could be used for a fiesta.

Viaje could be used for drug induced conditions.

Plus the fact I think bobby's answer may be better expressed as,

Hacer presa en algo - To be panic sticken or freaking out with something

I am not sure how to say freaking out exactly. The best I can do is "yo estaba presa del pánico mucho" I was panicking very much. I hope this is helpful!
