Question

Yes, I know this means "New York style," but I want to know what it means exactly...

This is a phrase from Spain.

I see it in magazines or online reviews that are talking about restaurants. There are often places that say "es un restaurante con estilo neoyorquino." What does that exactly mean? I am from the US and I have no idea what it is referring to. What makes something "New York style" in regards to a restaurant?

For clarification: The articles are referring to the style of the restaurant and NOT the food. Sometimes the restaurants will be Spanish food restaurants or Chinese restaurants or whatever. They are not always necessarily American food restaurants.

Estilo neoyorquino en decoración: espacios abiertos con pocos tabiques (tipo loft), paredes de ladrillo, techos altos, vigas de acero visibles (elementos estructurales a la vista), suelos de madera, aspecto industrial, muebles antiguos y usados, utilización de piezas procedentes de fábricas para incorporarlas a la decoración, mezcla de materiales bastos (ej. cemento o ladrillo) con objetos refinados, elementos metálicos, poco mobiliario...

I know that when someone advertises New York style pizza, they mean pizza with a really thick crust. But that is the only New York style dish I have heard of.
