7.2 Earthquake Hits Chile!
Let's say some prayers for, or keep in our thoughts, our Chilean friends. in the hope that there are no deaths or serious injury in the lastest 7.2 Eartthquake to hit that country.

Thanks for your concern. Nothing serious happened. I'm Chilean, and I''ve always lived in Chile, and let me tell you that a magnitude 7.2 earthquake is really a medium one here.
We call "temblor" (lit. "tremor") any small earthquake, really anything smaller than 6.5. Over that, it's a "terremoto" only if there are severe damages or several deaths, if not, it's still a "temblor".
Over 7.5 or so, it's a candidate to "terremoto", but really deppends on the damage produced, and that deppends on the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter.
The umbrella term for this things is "sismo" ("seísmo" in Spain).
The people of Chile are in my thoughts and prayers , we just had one of the same
magnitude but like Chile it was out in the bush in a small community and
thankfully no casualties.
