On the video, "¿Cómo es?" is said to mean "what are you like?" but when i type it into the translator it's "How is it?".

¿Cómo es? is not What are you like,it is "what is he/she/it like" depending on the context of who or what is being referred to. ¿Cómo eres? = What are you like?

Estoy de acuerdo, It's all based on context. But Fantasmal could also be correct, as well. - BradyLabuda, Mar 25, 2012

"Es" is used for "usted" (formal you), so the video is just being polite smile

It's still saying "What are you like?"

i dont think como es , would be used for asking people "what they are like". It is used in regard to what is that?

It can be used for asking people what other people are like i.e. ¿Cómo es tu hermano? What is your brother like? - kenwilliams, Mar 25, 2012

If you said ¿Cómo es la paella? - What's the paella like?

Both of the preceding answers are correct. "Es" can refer to you (formal), he, she, or it.
