Saber/Conocer

Question

Can some one tell me wheteher to use saber or conocer on this:

Desean ___ la identidad del último sobreviviente.

Uhhh... Hard decision. Both of those verbs match perfectly to me.

I would say:

• Desean conocer la identidad del último sobreviviente.

Notice there is a mistake in typing (it's "del", not "de").

I think "saber" is the better word to use. "Desean saber la identidad del último sobreviviente" or "They want to know the identify of the last survivor". Conocer, would be better used in a sentence like,"Desean llegar a conocer el último sobreviviente" or "They want to get to know the last survivor." Hopefully, you'll get a few more responses.
