Using this site for High School Spanish course?

Question

Hi, I homeschool my three boys, and my oldest is starting high school next year. I have personally completed many of the lessons (before the site was revamped) a couple years back, so I know how useful this site is. My question is: Does anyone know if this site would be enough to count as a HS course? Would I need to supplement with anything else, like grammar?

My son and I just went through the first lesson and the flash cards, and we are both excited to learn together.

Thats awesome that you two are doing this together! Spanish is very useful and it can be very fun to learn. I do not have a direct answer for your question but i would imagine you would have to look at the particular requirements depending on where you live. Every state has different education requirements.

Je suis ici is right. Language learning has many aspects. If you don't know how to learn a new language, no language learning sites can help you. Anyway, this is the best English - Spanish learning site that I have ever come across.

If you are using an official home school book that is approved and certified, I don't see a problem. This site would be a great supplement to your course work. I used it when I took Spanish in college and I found it to be a great help. The people in the forum will help you with your questions and compositions. As for speaking practice, we have a chat room and their are some high school students who practice there. In addition, you could download Skype and use a websites like this http://www.mylanguageexchange.com/ and exchange English and Spanish lessons.

I have a book about learning languages, so I just have to review that again. I asked the original question to see if there were other homeschoolers on this site. I see there is a grammar section. I will have to check that out as well.

The one thing that I think that this site doesn't really help with is listening to spoken Spanish. Most of the spoken Spanish in the videos is very slow. Some good sites for better listening practice are notesinspanish.com and LoMasTV. Notesinspanish is free; unfortunately, you have to pay for LoMasTV. I've also found that reading actual Spanish literature really helps me to get a feel for Spanish.

LoMasTV is only $9 per month.Has many good features and is worth checking it out .However I think is more suitable for intrmediate to advanced learners . - faliron, Apr 11, 2012
