I was told that when it comes to using Le/Lo for formal Usted. Le is slightly more respectful or distant. Could someone explain why? And if so.. what are some reasons why you would choose one over the other?

There is not really an explanation for it, just learn it and accept it! That statement is true! Spanish is a language with several levels of respect. It will be difficult for an English speaker to understand these differences, the same way it is not easy for us to understand why you can say "you" to a kid, a buddy and also "you" for your teacher, the pastor, your boss. I just had to stop feeling weird about the "rudeness" of English and accept it!
