So, i have come to understand that ; "To Hope", "To Wait" , "To Expect" all come from the verb esperar. Could someone possibly tell me how to differentiate between the meanings when they are used in conversation? Examples would be appreciated smile

But, this still doesnt shed much light on "to expect". Which means that you believe something will happen in the future. But that you werent necesarilly hoping for. - Ox-Y-Gen, Mar 17, 2012

Espero que José venga a la fiesta = I hope he comes to the party.

Espero que gane la lotería = I hope that I win the lottery.

¿Esperas a un amigo? = Are you waiting for a friend?

¡Espero que sí! = I hope so!

No es lo que yo esperaba = That's not what I expected (hoped for)

You could say, "espero que tengas un buen dia" (I hope that you have a good day). Also, esperar can mean "to wait for". For example, " tengo que esperar a ( name of person).

Like many Spanish words, esperar has multiple meanings. You know which one is appropriate through context.
