I'm trying to learn Spanish because I think it's the most practical and useful among Romance languages. It's being spoken in more than 25 countries in the world. It would definitely come in handy when you travel. Not to mention that I love Spanish films. I'd like to be able to understand what I'm watching without the help of subtitles one day, when I get better. ![]()
My attempt:
Por qué hizo tu decidia decidías decidiste aprender a español?
The "hizo" and "tu" are not needed because the "did you" is within the "decidia". That one Spanish word conveys "did you decide".
I am choosing to use the 2nd person, tú form, (preterit), decidiste, imperfect past; decidías, because I am getting to know the members more and more, so I can use the informal or familiar form. I believe you are getting more familiar with the members, too! ![]()
Por favor, corrija mi español.
it was a one time event that happened in a moment and ended in a moment, i.e., I made a decision, I decided. -- -Mariana's correction

(Because it's Fun! Better than the news on TV ie a killing here, an accident there, something was stolen ...)

Kat asked: Why did you decide to learn Spanish?
Bandit went with: Por qué decidías aprender a español?
I think that we need to use the preterit here, amigas, because it was a one time event that happened in a moment and ended in a moment, i.e., I made a decision, I decided.
¿Por qué decidiste (tú) aprender español?
¿Por qué decidieron (ustedes) aprender español?
I want to learn Spanish because, when I travel, I am embarrased that I only know English. Most countries teach their children at least two languages while they are young and can learn easily. Taking one semester of Spanish your senior year to graduate is a waste of time and most students get nothing out of it. l want to be able to have conversations with people from other countries. Mark Twain wrote, "Travel is fatal to narrow mindedness and bigotry". If we only know English we have to believe what they tell us. Before I started learning Spanish and Traveling, I was so uninformed about the rest of the world.
