Shopping around for a dictionary

I'd like to start reading Spanish books at home the problem is I can't get through a sentence without tripping over new vocabulary. I don't have internet connection in my house, so it is time to pick up a dictionary. Does anyone have a favorite that they could suggest to me? Thanks.

I always loved the Vox dictionary as a reading companion. It's not as popular as some, but I always thought it served me well. It doesn't have everything (like Collins or Velazquez might) but it has a lot of the most common words and phrases and mine had all the verb conjugations for irregular verbs in the middle.

So true, tagresta! How could I forget? If you download the app on an iPhone or Android, you do not need to be connected to the internet. - Paralee, Mar 14, 2012

I like the Larousse Concise Dictionary. It costs about $20US and comes with a CD version that you can load onto your computer for quick use when you don't have internet access.
