  • Homeroom or advisory is the classroom session in which a teacher records attendance and makes announcements. It can also be called Registration or Planning Period. The concept is used in schools around the world. Homeroom

...

  • As far as I know, we do not have this system in the Spanish speaking countries. In Colombia, teachers are the ones who normally move from classroom to classroom to give different lessons to students. This way we avoid kids roaming around, getting in trouble, being late for classes, dealing/using drugs, bullying, etc. It doesn't completely solve these problems, but it really minimize them a lot!

  • As teachers we have something call "Sala de profesores in HS or La dirección en Primaria" where teachers use their free periods to plan, grade or have a student that got in trouble to come to talk to a teacher, the dean or director.

Interesting, seems a good way to reduce disorder, of which there is plenty of here... - afowen, May 15, 2012

I finally decided to use general classroom as the translation or "aula general". I use the term in context of an elementary school.
