grammar question: de or en

Question

would you say "Pablo vive en una jungla de México." or "Pablo vive en una jungla en México."

and can someone please explain when to use de and when to use en?

Hello.

Both are correct. The difference is like in english:

1.- "de" -> "of" A place of Mexico. 2.- "en" -> "in" A place in Mexico.

They both look ok to me - I'd translate the first one as 'Paul lives in a Mexican jungle' and the second as 'Paul lives in a jungle in Mexico. But I'm not a native Spanish speaker so perhaps wait for other thoughts too

The previous answers are good. I'm not a native but here's what I think.

Pablo vive en una jungla de México."

• Pablo lives in a jungle of Mexico.
• Pablo lives in a Mexican jungle. (perhaps it can be translated as this, too)

"Pablo vive en una jungla en México." -- I would actually go with this.

• Pablo lives in a jungle in Mexico

I would use "de" if he were referring to many jungles, like "Pablo vive en una de muchas junglas de México" - missy8888, Mar 8, 2012
