Asking "Are you...?"

Asking "Are you...?"

Hola. Me llamo Milton. I am new to SpanishDict, and I am new to learning Spanish as well. I am using the internet lessons combined with some helpful tutoring from a friend of mine.

In lesson 1.1, we learn to say phrases such as "Estoy ocupado." I wonder how I can say to somebody, "Are you busy?", or some other such questions.

Thanks for your help. Adíos.

Welcome, Milton!

The others have given you the familiar version of ¿Estás ocupado? when you are talking to a male friend, peer, child, etc.

Here are other examples:

Talking to a female (familiar) ¿Estás ocupada?

Talking to a male (formal usted form) ¿Está ocupado?

Talking to a female (formal usted form) ¿Está ocupada?

Talking to more than one person where there is a male in the group ¿Están ocupados?

Talking to more than one person where there are only females in the group ¿Están ocupadas?

Thank you for the reply. I should have seen that "Esta" is the same word we use when we say como esta (how are you). I appreciate the other example too. - mmcdonald1986, Mar 7, 2012

Take the statement you want to say, change your intonation and put the required question marks around the question.

¿Estás ocupado?
