I've always been a bit confused to why people say "jeje" when laughing (typing). That really spanish for "haha"? Or is just something people made up?

Gracias! smile

They're the same! if they used hahaha in spanish it would be a long aaaa. and if we used jeje in english it wouldn't have the sound of laughter and jeje is more like hehe in english

Je je je in Spanish sounds like heh heh heh in English - it's totally normal to see and to use.

I'd say jaja is a laugh, and jeje is more of a snicker like you would hear in cartoons, but then again, what do I know ! I'm probably just splitting hairs, jajaja

I have many native Spanish speaking friends who use "jeje" and "jaja" when they type. Like albert-fabrik- said, "jaja" is our haha. "Jeje" is our hehe. It is like splitting hairs, but they are commonly used. The sound a "j" makes in Spanish is the equivalent of the sound our "h" makes in English. Therefore, they substitute the "j" for the "h."
