How do you say that someone is the inspiration behind something.

For example Marx is the inspiration behind Marxism

Would it be "es el inspiración detrás de" or "inspirador de" or is it one of those English phrases that one should not try to translate word for word but pick another means of saying it.

Cheers.

Hi, El_Hitch. I think you can use "la inspiración detrás de". I did a quick Google check of that phrase and it seems to be used often enough. So, for your example, I would say: Marx es la inspiración detrás de marxismo.

Also, you may find this useful for the future. The SD dictionary has this:

  1. inspiración (f) to be an inspiration to somebody -> ser una fuente de inspiración para alguien

Ex. Mi madre fue una fuente de inspiración para mi hermana, la quien es pintora ya. My mother was an inspiration to my sister who is now a painter.
