There are better tests of one's understanding of English grammar available online; ones which do not depend on one's knowledge of definitions of various types of words or sentence structure. The definition of "homophone" is not proper to a test of grammar, for instance, and the use of either "a" or "an" before words beginning with the letter "h" is also not properly grammar, rather more a regionalism. I would not rely on this particular test as an accurate indication of one's knowledge of, or ability to properly use, English grammar.

Then suggest another. What is grammar if not sentence structure and proper usage of words. And I believe the use of "a" and "an" is a grammar rule. - gringojrf, Mar 6, 2012
Here is a link the the a/an grammar rule: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/540/01/ - gringojrf, Mar 6, 2012
I agree with gringojrf. I have just done this test and this was an excellent grammar test. Grammar is also about learning all these terms etc. - mcl020, Mar 7, 2012
Enter "English Grammar Guides" under Google and try out the hits; the last time I did this I found four better sites - not kidding, there are tons of stuff out there and some of it is really good. - Lector_Constante, Mar 7, 2012

I scored 95% .... I failed at question 13. Which is indeed a grammatical rule, but it sounds so weird: The other boys or Henry is to blame. English is not my native language, but I studied it at University. Over 20 years ago.

My grammar is better than my fluency, I guess wink

Wow! I found another test for people learning English to gauge their progress in learning English grammar. I as a native speaker scored 145 out of 150 points (95%) and they called that intermediate level. So I guess I better change my English level on this site to Intermediate.

BTW I took the National Spanish Exam 2011 level 6 test in the Bilingual category and scored 81% raw which converted to 70th percentile of all bilingual category test takers. I then re-scored it as the regular learner category which converted to the 93% of all regular learners of Spanish (those taking classes without Spanish spoken at home, etc).

So I guess I'm not literate in either language. Who knows.

You communicate very well. So no judgement. I'm just trying to prove a point and doing very well. Grammar is overrated. - gringojrf, Mar 6, 2012
Oops, "judgment" does not have two "e"s in the U.S. - --Mariana--, Mar 6, 2012

I got 80%, but as Lector says: the test of good grammar should not depend on "definitions of various types of words or sentence structure."

Interesting, Gringo. Thanks!
