la temporada

(noun) season, period (of time)

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The sentence with the most votes will be crowned the Word of the Day winner!

Guidelines:

  • Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either.
  • Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well.
  • Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary).
  • Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.)
  • Have fun experimenting with Spanish!

My examples

1: Es mejor tomarse unas vacaciones durante la temporada baja.

It's best to go on vacation during the low season.

2: Pasé una temporada en Perú.

I spent some time in Peru.

Good but isn't seasons of the year Las estaciones del año?. - kenwilliams, Mar 6, 2012
Guess I am being a trifle pedantic as everyone appears to be posting in the same vein i.e. temporada and not estaciones. - kenwilliams, Mar 6, 2012

Springtime is lambing-time in England, and just now there are many lambs in the fields.

La temporada de lluvias no me parece un buen tiempo para visitar Colombia

The rainy season doesn't look like a good time to visit Colombia

  • La temporada cuando se cae enamorado es lo mejor en la vida.
  • The time when one falls in love is the best in life.

lo mejor = the best. At least I think it does. Coke commercials in Mexico say toma lo bueno. - gringojrf, Mar 6, 2012
Yes but the acid test is what follows. - kenwilliams, Mar 6, 2012
"Cuando uno se enamora es la mejor temporada de la vida". (Stay away from,"caer en amor/caer enamorado"; they are literal translations: "fall in love") - FigueroaGaray33, Mar 6, 2012

En algunos lugares no se puede diferenciar entre temporadas.

In some places you cannot differentiate between seasons.

(sorry, I couldn't resist this pic!)

Durante la temporada de caza, es una buena idea llevar un chaleco anaranjado.

During the hunting season, it is a good idea to wear an orange vest.

I appreciate the fact that we have four beautiful seasons, but such a long winter like that, I prefer to live somewhere else more southward.

Aprecio mucho el hecho de tenemos cuatro temporadas bellas, pero después de el invierno tan largo preferiría vivir en algún lugar más al sur.

No me gusta la temporada turistica donde vivo porque en mi vecindad, no hay lugar para estacionar mi carro en la calle.

I do not like the tourist season where I live because in my neighborhood, there is no place to park my car on the street.

Aquí es el principio del otoño, así que pronto va a ser la temporada de AFL - fútbol australiano. Si no eres australiano, este es un juego muy extraño, ¡pero no tan extraño como el críquet!

Here it is the start of autumn and therefore it is soon going to be the AFL season - Australian football. If you are not Australian this is a very strange game, though not as strange as cricket!
