What is the difference? Do you use them in different circumstances?

I think it´s just preference. In English, you could use "however" or "nevertheless" interchangeably, but most people have a preference.

It´s the same with those two words, because I have seen them used in similar contexts.

I see no obstante as "not withstanding" and sin embargo as "however·I would say that they are largely interchangeable someone else may enlarge on that.
