Deportes vs. Deportivos

What is the difference between deportivos and deportes? Do they both mean sports? Does context matter when I use them?

One is used mostly as a noun, while the other is used as an adjective.
Deportes = noun "sports" Desportivo = adjective, like "la ropa deportiva" = sports wear (clothing)

"Deportes" is a noun. "Los deportes".
"Deportivos" is an adjective. "Los programas deportivos".
