What is the difference between the usage of the words mas and pero. I would love to see some examples if possible.

"Mas" is really only used in literature or poetry, and more classical style. Nowadays it isn´t really used, especially in daily conversation, and I have never really ever seen it in modern writing. It means the same thing as "pero" (but). The only really difference is that pero is much more common now.

Another nice question. I read a lot in Spanish, and I see "pero" used very often, in the same way the English word "but" is used. The word "mas" (without the tilde) also means "but", however, I only read it once or twice in the past 5 months. If I remember it right, it was used the same way as "pero." Maybe "mas" is a old way or literal way of saying "but."
