"La sala de estar"?

Question

Why in rosetta stone do they call a living room "la sala de estar"? I i have always heard it referred to as just la sala. when i asked some friend at work that are from puerto rico they said sala de estar doesnt even make any sense.

It deppend on the region. In Spain, we always use "la sala de estar" o "la salita".

It literally means "the room to be", but it isn't always the same word everywhere you go. Take the word "fork" in English, for example. In some regions, I've heard them be called, "diggers". They are the same thing, and both work, but not everyone uses the same word.

Also: Rosetta Stone can only get you so far. I have spent hours on it for Italian and French, but it doesn't tell you what you need in order to have a real conversation with somebody. Just a sidenote there.

Take all learning resources with a grain of salt. Check several sources. If you use translate above you will occasionally find conflicting answers among the three dictionaries that it searches.

We use "Sala de estar" here in Guatemala.
