I know its been asked, but is there a way for "dummies" to understand this (division en silabas)?

I remember having a lesson about this back in high school. It was quite hard for me because there were specific rules about consonents and vowels and where to separate them! - missy8888, Mar 2, 2012

Hecho, I guess, still you are having some problems with syllables.

If you are familiar with the language, it is pretty easy. Just pronounce the word slowly and your brain wil tell you where the divisions occur.

  • In Spanish: Teléfono. Te-lé-fo-no

  • In English: Te-le-phone

  • Same word, different amount of syllables.

  • If you need more examples, I can give you some more! Hope this helped!

You can look up any word in the Spanish Dictionary of Syllables to see how it divides into syllables. There's also an article on how to divide any Spanish word into syllables: http://sílabas.com/regalas/separar_en_sílabas.
