¡Son los alebrijes!
On second thoughts, they look as though they are from Mexico...Jool.
Racoonka is right: these are alebrijes, a folk-art from Mexico.
An alebrije is a wooden sculpture that has elements of different animals, painted in bright colors. Pedro Linares created the first papier-mâché alebrije in 1936 in Mexico City. The story goes that he had been ill and had seen these imaginary creatures in his feverish dreams. The word alebrije means 'imagination' or 'fantasy'. Nowadays, the Oaxaca Valley is considered THE centre of the alebrije production.
There's much, much more information on them on the link Racoonka had provided and here Enjoy!
