Cualquiera:

(adjective) any

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish and English sentences. Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The sentence with the most votes will be crowned the Word of the Day winner!

Guidelines:

  • Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either.
  • Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well.
  • Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary).
  • Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.)
  • Have fun experimenting with Spanish!

My examples

1: Cualquier persona puede aprender español.

Any person can learn Spanish.

2: Nos van a llamar en cualquier momento.

They are going to call us at any moment.

should it be vayan a llamar since doubt is involved - readytodictate, Feb 26, 2012
If I were to say "I doubt they are going to call," then yes, I would use subjunctive. In this case, "They ARE going to call" so the indicative is used. Great question! - Paralee, Feb 26, 2012
Given the examples below, I am unsure whether I should use "cualquier" or "cualquiera." I see inconsistent usage in the examples provided. Thank you. - SanMateo1, Feb 28, 2012
Matthew, if you look at the dictionary entry, you will see lots of examples and explanations for when to use one or the other. Basically, you use "cualquier" in front of singular nouns. - Paralee, Feb 28, 2012

Cuando busques a tu alma gemela la conocerás cualquiera que sea.

When you meet your soul- mate you will recognize him, whoever it may be.

Me gusta mucho La Palabra del Día porque cualqiera puede jugar. No importa si estás principiante o tienes mucha experiencia, pueden escribir una frase a tu nivel mismo, y los otros miembros de SpanishDict te ayudarán. ¡Cualquiera intento es bueno!

I like The Word of the Day a lot because anyone can play. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or very experienced, you can write a sentence at your own level, and the other SDers will help you. Any attempt is good!
