Give the ring to Miller. - it's the same general concept as in English. I've found that if you study a grammatical term in your own language, it can help you to better understand it (conceptually) in a language like spanish.
Give the ring to Miller. Give is a verb.... what is the verb affecting ? That's what you have to ask yourself. A. Find the verb (give is the verb) B. Ask the question 'what is being given ? (the ring) C. That's your answer ...the DIRECT OBJECT (the object being acted on by the verb) is the RING.
The indirect object, would be Miller. Because he is GETTING (INDIRECT OBJECT) the RING (DIRECT OBJECT)... that is being GIVEN (VERB)
Hope that helps.
