iIan -hill : I beg to differ. When the -ing form is used as a noun, it is of course a gerund. But the gerund can also have the function of a verb, even with an object of its own. As in ' I don't like studying languages'. - Castor77, Feb 28, 2012

'Politics' seems to be used as a singular noun, I think. It's like 'physics' or 'athletics'- if you take the 's' off you get an adjective, not a singular noun. - jennysk, Feb 24, 2012
