"Ayer fuimos a la playa y tomamos el sol" is the correct one. You can't use the present perfect, because you're talking about an action ocurring in a completed time (yesterday).
You could say: "Hoy hemos ido a la playa y hemos tomado el sol" if because the day hasn't finished yet, or if the event has been completed in a recent moment in time: "Esta mañana hemos ido a la playa" (in this case, you could say as well: "Esta mañana fuimos a la playa").
Hello vic. I noticed that your first sentence has a mixture of 'Pretérito' and 'Indefinite past'. In that case I believe it should be: "Ayer fuimos a la playa y tomamos el sol". If the action took place at no definite time in the past, then you could use the second sentence, (Perfecto de Indicativo). Hope this is of some help...Jool. I've just made a quick edit and noticed that Cordobesa has beaten me to it...but I think that we have the same answer.
