forgot to say ....i am looking for an answer as to what a spanish native would say as opposed to how we speak or think - warrenmarshall, Feb 21, 2012

Yo diría "Voy a comprarme un coche nuevo" o "Voy a buscarme un coche nuevo".

"Voy a conseguir un coche nuevo" es correcto, pero no muy usual. Perhaps in some specific situations: imagine that I didn't have any money, and my biggest dream were having a new car, so I would have to work hardly every single day for getting it, and I could say something like this: "¡Aunque me cueste la misma vida, voy a conseguir un coche nuevo!"

Y, desde luego, nunca diría "un nuevo coche" (escribiendo, puede ser, pero hablando no).

The word get can mean so many things in English that it can easily become a nightmare translating such a sentence into Spanish until you think clearly what yu mean by the word get

I think the word get is best translated in this context by the word (to) buy

I know get can also mean to obtain but, I mean... honestly, how many English- speaking natives do you ever hear saying I am going to obtain a new car? (Please forgive me my English-speaking American friends wink lol but we just don't use or hear that word used in this context in England, at least not in everyday colloquail speech. However, it is more commony used by business, the law and the police.eg: ''He tried to to obtain an advantage by deception'' )

Back to your question: The implication is that the person is going to buy a new car so,based on that, I would offer the following translation:

Voy a comprarme un coche nuevo

= I am going to buy (get) a new car

I hope this helpsgrin

Voy a conseguir un coche nuevo. or Voy a comprar un coche nuevo. Voy a + infinative is the most used way of expressing what you are going to do in the future

rather than congugating the verb to future tense
