I was starting a Spanish paper and was wondering what the difference was between the phrase "Es bueno con los niños y quieren muchos" and "Es bueno con los niños y quiere muchos".

Es bueno con los niños y quiere (tener) muchos.

"Es bueno... y quieren muchos" is incorrect. The subject is "él", so you have to use the 3rd person "quiere" (singular).

quieren means "they want" and quiere means you/he/she "wants." SO, quiere would be incorrect because los niños is plural.

Thank you, I appreciate it. - kaitlynelaine, Feb 19, 2012
"Niños" is the direct complement. The verb "querer" depends on the subject, "él", so you have to use the singular "quiere". - Cordobesa, Feb 19, 2012

If you want to say the children want it very much you can add ¨lo¨ to refer it , and the sentence would be more clear "Es bueno con los niños y lo quieren muchos" O(?_?)O~
