Hola Ken! Fun thread. I changed the category to Culture and Travel since this is more of a discussion on where everyone is from and not exactly a Vocabulary question. - Paralee, Feb 17, 2012
This is a great idea, Ken - rac1, Feb 17, 2012
By the way, "¿de dónde sois?" is Spanish from Spain. In the rest of the world you use "¿de dónde eres?", except Argentina and Uruguay where they say "¿de dónde sos?" ;) - JuanPabloW, Feb 21, 2012
We use ¿De dónde eres? in Spain if we are addressing one person "eres" is the second person congugation are you not aware? so you wouldn't say eres if you were asking the question to two or more people and that is why I asked ¿De dónde sois? because I was - kenwilliams, Feb 21, 2012
asking the whole forum and not just one person and Spanish from Spain indeed well you can't get more authentic than that all the rest is just local variations of course you need to know these variations if you are living there. - kenwilliams, Feb 21, 2012
Oh, that's nice; it used to exist "¿de dónde sois vos?" for singular in Spain, probably from old speaking, I still have Spanish friends who use it. But I've always been glad that Spain is leaving behind some archaic speaking. - JuanPabloW, Feb 21, 2012
In America, Spaniard speaking is very annoying so usually people discard Spanish movies, series or dubbing. As for the question, "¿De dónde son?" would be in the rest of countries for plural.. - JuanPabloW, Feb 21, 2012
I see what you mean, some people find the queen's English is very annoying, anyway thanks for your comments Juan - kenwilliams, Feb 21, 2012
You're welcome! - JuanPabloW, Feb 28, 2012

Your City looks beautiful but I do feel sorry for you if you never see the sun nor the stars at night after all I left the UK because I didn't see enough sun there so I am glad that I didn't move to San Miguel. I am glad that I didn`t move to San M - kenwilliams, Feb 21, 2012
Hi! thank you for your message. In Lima, we can see the sun in summer and spring and wow! it's too hot; fortunately, here in San Miguel, only few times the sun can be seen, it's always cool, and sunlight is harmful so it's okay ;) - JuanPabloW, Feb 21, 2012

- Goldie_Miel, Feb 21, 2012

You should say "donde estoy viviendo" not yo and also you don't need the stress over the "o" in donde unless it is a question e.g. ¿Dónde vives? and to where you are you use estar and not ser so it is "Estoy en la selva". - kenwilliams, Feb 19, 2012
Soy el rey de la selva, that is correct but I hope that you don't come up against the real king of the jungle the Lion. - kenwilliams, Feb 19, 2012

I understand TX is abreviation for Texas after Dallas but why does it follow Palestine in your post? isn't Palestine in the Middle East? or is there one in Texas as well? - kenwilliams, Feb 18, 2012

Well I have been taken to task for naming my thread "De dónde sois? so let me explain myself with these examples: ¿De dónde soy? where am I from? ¿De dónde eres? Where are you from? (Singular speaking to one person) ¿De dónde es? Where is he/she from? (You would know who was being referred to by context) ¿De dónde es usted? Where are you from sir. ¿De dónde somos? Where are we from? ¿De dónde sois? and that is the question that I was asking. Where are you all from? ¿De dónde son? Where are they from?
