This is not a Spanish or English forum question. However, there was just no way to streamline the process where we worked. Each code had to be written on every slip by hand and then later in the business office put into the computer. There were individual forms for each test in triplicate. And one of them was for the business office. On this form, the V and E codes had to be written. Perhaps, with computer code readers this can be streamlined.

link text V and E codes are used for medical billing. When I worked in a hospital all the lab tests had to have the correct ICD 9 codes. These codes usually began with a V and had a long string of numbers after them. They usually reflected the patient's diagnosis. E codes are a supplementary classification of the ICD-9-C: "Classification of External Causes of Injuries and Poisoning."

The correct V code is necessary for the insurance company to pay for the lab test. If it is not correct, the test will not be paid for and the patient will be charged.

Sanlee, thank you for the informative answer. Mbeeh, I'm sorry but this post is off-topic so I will close it. Feel free to ask questions about Spanish or English we can help with. Welcome to the forum.
