I am continuing to practice my Spanish writing. Corrections to my Spanish are appreciated. Muchas gracias!

Beaver Characteristics

The beaver has different degrees of dark brown fur. It is naturally thick, oily, and waterproof. Their ears and eyes are small, dark, and round. Their nostrils are large. They close them, along with their ears, underwater. Their incisors protrude past their lips allowing them to chew wood underwater, therefore they do not get water in their mouths. The hind feet are fully webbed. The front feet are smaller and have claws. Because the hind legs are longer than the front legs, the beaver's body slants down towards the head. They are superb swimmers and use their large flat tails for better control, but they are clumsy on land.

I made a few changes that you should also consider in English. At the begining you are writing in singular, but them later you write in plural. The few changes that I made have to do with changing plurals to singulars. By the way, I am very impressed! You have done an amazing job!

That's a good point. Also keeping the tense consistent throughout is imporaant (unless you know how to deviate with authority.) - Pablo-Peligroso, Feb 16, 2012
I'm slow to respond, but I do appreciate these reminders. - bandit51jd, Feb 18, 2012
Heavens no Pablo, I need to stay singular or plural throughout! - bandit51jd, Feb 18, 2012

You did a great job. Only some minor mistakes. I've made some suggestions. Remember, in Spanish when you build sentences do not always use a period to separate you ideas. you can use commas or some conectors like in: Sus fosas nasales son grandes**, estas se** cierran junto con sus ojos debajo del agua. We have the same problem when writing in English, we use commas instead of periods. I'm learning about this right now. I hope anyone else could give us a better explanation, but for the moment believe in me.

Cheerio amiga. I'll be here from time to time.

Muchas gracias, Nelson! It took me a few days to get the edits done but I wanted you to know I appreciate the corrections very much! - bandit51jd, Feb 19, 2012
On my next writing I'll try and remember joining sentences with the comma! - bandit51jd, Feb 19, 2012

Hey! Just one observation I made concerning the following line:

...after "labios" it seems (to me, at least) that "se permiten" might be rewritten as "para permitir que mastican..." or something similar... for some reason, that line threw me! I hope someone with a little more experience jumps in...

Hope that helps a little bit... smile

I agree, but I think the problem could also be solved with one simple letter (and word!), la "y". - Goldie_Miel, Feb 16, 2012
Oh, and if it was "para", I think it'd be: "para permitir que mastiquen*" - good ol' subjunctive - Goldie_Miel, Feb 16, 2012
I'm a little slow but I am going through your feedback, cristal. On paragraph's it takes me awhile. Muchas gracias! - bandit51jd, Feb 18, 2012

Bandit, I don't know if this is a typo but it should be 'las patas': Los patas delanteras son menores y tienen las garras. The rest looks really good!
