Torpe:

clumsy, uncoordinated; slow, dim-witted

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish and English sentences. Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The sentence with the most votes will be crowned the Word of the Day winner!

Guidelines:

  • Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either.
  • Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well.
  • Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary).
  • Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.)
  • Have fun experimenting with Spanish!

My examples

1: ¡Qué torpe eres! Se te cayó el bolígrafo tres veces.

You are so clumsy! You've dropped your pen three times.

2: Lo siento, pero soy un poco torpe para las matemáticas.

I'm sorry, but I'm a little slow when it comes to math.

Los castores son nadadores soberbios y usan sus grandes colas planas de para el mejor control, pero están torpes en tierra. ¡O, tal vez no!

Beavers are superb swimmers and use their large flat tails for better control, but they are clumsy on land. Or, maybe not!

Usualmente, no soy tan torpe. Pero hoy no es mi día.

I'm usually not so clumsy, but today is just one of those days.

(No sabía decir "one of those days")

Yo is a personal pronoun and not needed rac1. The subject is within the conjugated verb so all you need is, "Era torpe....era un" - bandit51jd, Feb 16, 2012
Thank you Bandit - rac1, Feb 16, 2012
bandit, as a general question: when writing a sentence just like this example, is one personal pronoun ever needed? To me, this sentence doesn't have enough context to differentiate between "I" and "he," for example. Thanks! - RedLine55, Feb 16, 2012
Good point, RedLine. I totally forgot this. So I retract my suggestion. In this case the "yo" specifically is "I". Muchas gracias, RedLine! - bandit51jd, Feb 16, 2012

Ok, I'm not dead certain, but I think it's: "Me gusta el golf y deseo que mi juego sea mejor, pero soy realmente sólo un torpe." - NickDan, Feb 16, 2012
Should I assume that being a "duffer" right now is a permanent thing? Darn - Spenco, Feb 16, 2012

The man ''Baldrick' is another dimwitted character from the well-known T.V. series, called: ''Blackadder''

= El hombre ''Baldrick'' es otro personaje torpe bien conocido de la serie T.V. llamado ''Blackadder''

I would delete the comma after "man" and "hombre." Also, I would say "otro personaje bien conocido de la serie T.V. "Blackadder". - Paralee 1 hr ago

Original sentence:

El hombre, ''Baldrick'' es otro personaje torpe de la serie T.V. bien conocido, llamado ''Blackadder''
