Hi Maria. Since we focus on Spanish here, I can't speak to the Portuguese idiom, but here is an explanation of "una de cal y otra de arena". As for the Portuguese idiom, this might help. It looks to me like they are different, but the meaning of "una de cal y otra de arena" varies by context. Welcome to the forum!
