Let's get back to learning!

Let's get back to learning!

I'm just a newbie on SD and I have the utmost respect for the fluent speakers like Heidi, Lazarus, cogumela and others who have contributed so much for so long. But now I want keep learning, so let's move on.

I've noticed that those who are leaving the site continue to post answers and questions, but usually to disparage the site. But, SD is still very useful to some of us--this morning I used it to help complete my homework assignment.

So let's move forward in a positive way and let's use "feedback" when we see problems or want to suggest improvements.

That's two-cents worth from this unworthy beginner. smile

Note: In deference to, and with respect for the many differing comments and notes I had on "eso sí que es" I have removed that expression from my post. Now, let's get back to learning.

Good luck Frank - 0043ad50, Feb 15, 2012
Hi, Frank. Just to clear the air, every word of disparagement I have made is intended as feedback. For anyone who understands my rants, the intended improvements, if made, would make it better for everyone here, including you. - pesta, Feb 15, 2012
There are people learning here, and I respect that. - pesta, Feb 15, 2012
I hope you understand that I feel the loss (people leaving) as much as anybody, and those fluent speakers have my gratitude. - mtmonadnock, Feb 15, 2012

Frank, I believe Cogumela is right: I do not think that you can use "pero" + "eso sí que es". I think "eso sí que es" is used by itself; it appears to be an interjection, which is why DJ_Huero's joke the man exclaims, "íEso sí que es!". With "pero" have to use "lo". But again, I am just a beginner, and, of course, there were no frequent moderators to correct me.

But, as has been said ad nauseum, that highlights precisely what has been happening with this site. With most of the experienced native and advanced Spanish speakers gone, there are few left to correct those of us who are hanging on a bit longer.

I think the reason there are so many "new users" is that those who left were frequent posters, whose love of learning and educating, made them proffer their knowledge throughout this site. Sadly, that does not happen anymore. There are many more unanswered threads, and threads with questions that have gone uncorrected. Unfortunately, I believe among the reasons for so many closed threads is that the new moderators/management cannot handle the round-the-clock monitoring of this site. In my opinion, one beauty of the site under the former moderators was they were an international team; by being scattered around the world, there was always somebody awake posting. Not so any more.

As with you Frank101, I am still new here and I want to learn. But with the loss of great threads and an international moderation team, it has become a less enjoyable experience.

excellent comment xocoyote. Oh and my comment about your accepted answer was by no means a criticism of you. It's just indicative of the site now - sadly :( - billygoat, Feb 15, 2012

Well, I think you mean:

Pero es lo que es.

Don't you?

Hi Cogi. I really miss you so much. All the users are new. Sad....Christopher never responded to my open letter. - 0043ad50, Feb 15, 2012
I guess he has no good answer to it. - 00d312f5, Feb 15, 2012
Repectfully cogumela (and I truly do), see yesterdays question "What is s-o-c-k-s?" - mtmonadnock, Feb 15, 2012
oh Frank, no disrect, but that is so funny. If you look again at the thread you mention, the accepted answer was by somebody who is a beginner/intermediate learner of the langue - and supported by other learners of the language. Surely I don't even have - billygoat, Feb 15, 2012
to mention Cogumela's credentials. ;-) - billygoat, Feb 15, 2012
happens all the time now...nobody has the level to answer now...chileno and farallon are still answering, please frank, ask them - 00494d19, Feb 15, 2012
with all due respect Heidita, Cordobesa and Coffeelate are still around. I trust these to give correct answers - billygoat, Feb 15, 2012
oh yes, and those I have mentioned too, cordobesa....I don'¡t see her that much any more....coffee is here, you are right - 00494d19, Feb 15, 2012

i agree. i knew them from years ago and then i fell off for a minute and now i'm back. well i didn't stop speaking spanish because Heidi and her gang wasn't in my life.

besides...Heidi and her gang said they was going to Skype or whatever to start they own show so everybody who want to be with Heidi and Marianne and Lazarus and the rest the gang, go to Skype.

the rest of us who are interested in learning spanish are gonna stay right here. this is as good a site as any and there are many good instructors yet around here.

so let's just get back to work.

Gang? this is totally unacceptable. - faliron, Feb 15, 2012
You are holding some grudge there, aren't you?. By the way, the site is not the same. Haven't you noticed the quality of the answers lately? - 00d312f5, Feb 15, 2012
abayarde, I made a spelling correction - mtmonadnock, Feb 15, 2012
You are mistaken about Marianne. She has never said she wanted to leave this site. - Eddy, Feb 15, 2012
doh!!!!!! abayarde - some of the old 'gang' will still be around ;-) - billygoat, Feb 15, 2012
Well this is getting really "clicky" now! - caza, Feb 15, 2012
wow, so Eddy has actually seen this, Eddy, stop "eating grass " and tell the management that chamacamalo is back! - 00494d19, Feb 15, 2012
Chamacomalo? God help us. He's going to kill the Spanish language if he begins to answer posts. - 00d312f5, Feb 15, 2012
Who is chamacamalo? I really hope he doesn't kill the Spanish language... I would have to start over learning a new language. - Jadey7, Feb 15, 2012
his names were, chamacamalo, lkepuede, hmmmm, several others, he was kicked out by me and eddy about a dozen times - 00494d19, Feb 15, 2012
abayarde - I can get you safely into a witness protection program. Change your name a few more times first, though. - pesta, Feb 15, 2012
Why are you assuming that you will be able to learn Spanish here when you appear not to have expended much effort learning English yet? - Spenco, Feb 15, 2012
