What about us?

What about us?

Hello everyone, I am not exactly sure what is going on here on Spanishdict, but apparently some people are "leaving". It seems Heidi (whose threads were really useful to me) is leaving the site, and suddenly everyone is planning to leave with her. A few days ago, Lazarus also said he would leave with her, although I haven't been here long enough to see him in action, I've heard he's legendary.

My question is, if all the really good Spanish speakers are leaving the website, what will happen to us who are not so good? We rely on the help of all the "expert" Spanish speakers of this website to help us improve, if they all follow Heidi, who will help us Intermediate and beginner folk?

I'm just saying, I know that Heidi was a huge asset to this site, and I'm not sure of the details, I hear she is leaving, and not in good terms, but does that mean everyone else must up and leave? Shouldn't they stay to continue her legacy? This is my opinion, let me know what you think. (I hope I haven't offended anyone).

Haven't you already posted an almost identical thread? - rabbitwho, Feb 14, 2012
No i haven't. - lydianish1, Feb 14, 2012
good question, what you should ask yourself though is why the management is doing nothing to make the natives stay;) and nothing is being done, trust me;) - 00494d19, Feb 14, 2012
but then, why were the natives here to begin with? to help people learn Spanish or to make friends with the management? Isn't it the cause that's more important? - lydianish1, Feb 14, 2012
we were all here to help, not be insulted by the management, read my thread, lydia;) we are not "just leaving" we were insulted , so we are leaving....end of story - 00494d19, Feb 14, 2012
As I said on your identical thread Lydian, there are loads of people out there on the internet to help learn Spanish, why should anyone stay here when they are neither happy nor welcome? - rabbitwho, Feb 14, 2012
I told you Rabbitwho, I don't have another thread like this one! And if you feel like leaving, then obviously I can't stop you, but I am still wondering what drives you? Whenyou give, do you do it because you expect to recieve? - lydianish1, Feb 14, 2012
or is it because of the kindness of your heart? many people do many good things and they don't always get immediate gratitude, this world is unfair, don't over expect. when you fight, figth for the cause, not for the trophy. - lydianish1, Feb 14, 2012
Forget immediate reward Lydia Heidi has been waiting for 4 years to receive appreciation from the management... that is hardly immediate and to be insulted aswell is the last straw! - FELIZ77, Feb 14, 2012
I'm sorry, it was a different person who posted the same thread: http://www.spanishdict.com/answers/223188/why-do-you-all-insist-on-leaving - rabbitwho, Feb 14, 2012
Well, we are definitely grateful, but, i guess you are right, there is a fineline between giving charitably and being taken advantage of. if they feel they have been taken advantage of, then i get it, i've been there, i've been president of a club... - lydianish1, Feb 15, 2012
and when i felt overly used and unappreciated, i gave myself two weeks off and things crumbled, when i came back they had realised just how much they needed me. so maybe they need to do this, hopefully it's not permanent and they will all come back.. - lydianish1, Feb 15, 2012

Sadly some of the best members are leaving the site and will be sorely missed, so what next? Well we can only wait and hope that the site continues to be the best learning site on the web.

How??? - faliron, Feb 14, 2012
By trying our hardest to make things work. we have to put up a fight before declaring defeat! we can't just stand by and watch everything fall to the ground, i've really grown fond of this site, i've at least got to try. - lydianish1, Feb 14, 2012
You didn't grow fond of the site, you grew fond of the people on it. The site management have made it clear we are not welcome, we are going somewhere else. We will have just as much awesomeness and help just as many people somewhere else. - rabbitwho, Feb 14, 2012

I have wondered about the same thing myself. I sense I can help with some, easy things being asked, but that's about it. We need people here who know the language and can help us beginner/intermediate folks with our questions. I want this site to continue as it used to, with or without those who have left. I wish to have back "word of the day" and "picture of the day" soon. Those were good motivations towards practising Spanish writing.

i didn't know that Word Of the Day is gone too!! How sad!! Hopefully this is all temporary. - lydianish1, Feb 14, 2012
I hope so too! - inridk, Feb 14, 2012
Inridk the site will remain and questions will be asked and answered ,but the "quality" is gone . - faliron, Feb 14, 2012
let's be optimistic... - lydianish1, Feb 14, 2012
We may be in the same boat with those sites where students with little knowledge correct each other's input and poke each other in the eye all the time! :- - Lector_Constante, Feb 14, 2012
Yeah, you said it lydianish; let's be optimistic :-) - inridk, Feb 15, 2012

All the people who are leaving are unpaid, they gave their time for nothing, often with no thanks from those they helped.

I am sure that if the management prefer to use paid Moderators they will be happy to pay Spanish speakers to do all the work the Heidita, Cogumela et al have done on the site for nothing.

And the end result will be more money, less qualify. - territurtle, Feb 15, 2012
