"qué bien" o "qué bueno"?

Hello!

Even in the midst of this chaotic time... I have a question.

Is it correct to say "qué bien" or "qué bueno"? And is it with an "é" accent or not?

Hi Kat, "¡Qué bueno!" and "¡Qué bien!" are used interchangeably, but one may be used more frequently than another in certain countries. Note that "bueno" is an adjective and "bien" is an adverb, so if you're referring to something specific, that can be a guide in choosing between them (noun vs. verb).

They can be in most cases, but they are not necesarily interchageable! I.E ¡Qué bien bailaste!, You cannot say "Qué bueno bailaste" It does not sound quite right. - farallon7, Feb 13, 2012

True. In the case of bailar, which is a verb, you should use the adverb "bien" so "¡Qué bien bailaste!" makes sense. I think they are interchangeable when used as an interjection, right? - StuartSD, Feb 13, 2012

Both expressions are correct and no, there is not tilde on the "e" from the word "bien" But yes, there is a tilde on the "e" from the word "Qué"

• ¡Qué bien jugaste!

• ¡Qué bueno que viniste!

• Remember, this mark on top of vowels " ´ " is called "tilde" and not "accent" why? Because every word have a syllable with the strongest accent but not every word has a "tilde" I.E

• Camión = Has a tilde on "o" where the strongest accent is.
• Camino = Doesn't have a tilde anywhere, even though the strongest accent is on "mi" (See "reglas de la tilde for more detailed information about tildes).

Oh please, do not feel that way at all! This mistake is well spread even amongst the Spanish speaking countries! You can call it a diacritic accent acute, but tilde is easier and correct! - farallon7, Feb 13, 2012

Hi there!

I think you can use both interchangeably.

Like - ¡Ganamos el partido! (we won the game) - ¡Qué bien! or ¡Qué bueno!

Well, they mean the same.

¡Qué bien que ganamos el partido!

¡Qué bueno que ganamos el partido!

I suppose that people in South America use more "qué bueno".
