Beginners Spanish - Gender / Género

Hi guys I'm not sure if this will be of any use to any of the beginners out there but I am in the process of writing a few small reference articles on Spanish Grammar etc - this one is about how 'gender' works in Spanish.

I will appreciate any feedback, positive or negative; suggestions etc aswell - the articles are still works in progress as my son's are currently working on some illustrations for me to insert throughout the text.

Hi Kiwi, Well I'm not that much of a beginner any more.... or am I?

I get la chica, el hijo, la silla. Except when I'm speaking I sometimes trip up over the simplest things like these as my tongue is faster than my brain, so.... repetition, repetition, repetition. And I can always use a refresher on the exceptions and the irregular endings. And the verbs. Everything that I now "know" has yet to become second nature when I'm speaking. I need to be able to say it without thinking. So, repetition....etc.

Typo: Under the verb estoy, #1. you have sentada listed twice - for both females and males. And there is no answer key (yet) for ser/estar.

I like the lesson. It's compact and well written. More quizzes! I'm always lobbying for more quizzes smile. Hope this helps.

Hi Kiwi,

I love how you think about helping beginners like me (and many others)! Many times when we are past the beginning stage we forget how we had come this far, and think simple things like these are 'common sense' or 'natural' when really they aren't! Of course this will help beginners learn!

Me, for example, already know about the 'el' and the 'la', and simple rules. But I never knew we say 'el agua' simply because 'la agua' wouldn't roll off the tongue that easily! See? That's something new!

I really appreciate all your efforts, and looking forward to seeing some more articles. Who knows? I might pick up a few more pointers along the way!
