My Example:

Nunca he intentado exigir un aumento de sueldo. Siempre pienso que soy imprescindible en la empresa, y no quiero que me decepcionen.

I have never tried to demand a raise. I always think that I am essential to the company, and I don't want to be disappointed. smile

El bebé exige y la madre reparte - ¡a veces parece que eso representa la relación fundamental, económica entre madre e hijo!

The baby demands and the mother supplies - at times it seems that this is the fundamental economic model between a mother and her baby!

Thanks Chris - porcupine7, Feb 11, 2012
Umm, it is not usual in English to say something requires "to be" + noun phrase; in this example, it should be "requires good physical condition" or "requires that you be in good physical condition". - Lector_Constante, Feb 11, 2012
El esquí exige una buenA condición física, si no hay riesgo de un accidente - drvicente, Feb 12, 2012
Porcu, Another shorter way to say it, "Skiing requires being in good...." And "the risk" is ok, but "a risk" is even better and more natural. - katydew, Feb 12, 2012

Si exiges tus derechos. Prepárate para ser atacado. - drvicente, Feb 11, 2012
I'm really confused by this. What part of speech is prepárate? The dictionary just says it's a versión of preparar. The "estar siendo atacado" came from the dictionary. Is it wrong or a personal preference. - Leatha, Feb 11, 2012
The part of speech is the command form of "tú" and the verb is "prepararse"- to prepare oneself or get ready..it has to be reflexive in this sense. The second part is not correct. to be attack is "ser atacado" - drvicente, Feb 12, 2012
Thank you for the corrections and explanations. - Leatha, Feb 12, 2012

A mí no me gustan las personas que exigen mucho atención porque me parecen ser como niños.

I don't like people that demand a lot of attention because they seem to be like children.

"people who demand"; English uses "who" and "whom" as relative pronouns for people ... - Lector_Constante, Feb 11, 2012
That's not true Lector, please do not confuse learners. This is just a question of style. In a defining relative clause it is possible to use "that" when speaking about a person, it is only in a non-defining relative clause where it is not acceptable. - rabbitwho, Feb 11, 2012
