Spanish TV shows similar to Extr@ Español for beginner/intermediate level learners

I have searched for threads on Spanish TV shows in general and for beginners in this forum, and have tried some shows recommended by other members. Kids shows are not very interesting for me(Dora, Pocoyo), but normal Spanish TV shows (El Chavel, Aguila Roja) are too hard for me to follow. I can follow Destino and Mi Vida Loca but since they are so focused on language learning, the plots become boring, or at least not engaging enough. I am not trying to be picky here, because I believe the best way to learn a language is to even forget you are learning by using the right materials at the right stage.

Among the previous forum recommendations, I found the show "Extr@ Español" to be perfect for my level and was extremely engaging, so engaging that I watched all 13 episodes on youtube in one day.

Do you have any TV show to recommend which is similar to Extr@ Español?

Muchas Gracias,

Hi! thank you for recommending this. I'm just a beginner and cannot understand everything they say but this will be a great help, no doubt. Gracias! - cheskasullivan, Feb 27, 2012
this is a great show. I would be very interested to know if there are more out there. I've turned this show on to my son and he is majoring in Spanish. We are having fun deciphering the plot together. - dimesoup, Dec 5, 2012
Wow, thanks for this. These shows were exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for. They are hilarious and good to learn with. - Shifty, May 12, 2013

I don't think using subtitle or transcript is a good way to train listening skills, because I am not quick enough to do either the listening or the reading. However, for what it is worth, here is the link for the transcripts for extr@ en español.

These are audio only, but have you tried News in Slow Spanish or NotesInSpanish. You can access the audio files for free, or pay a membership fee and get PDF transcripts. I load these (free) files onto my mp3 player and listen while at the gym.

Search the web for "costa rica canal 11 vivo". This is a major TV station in Costa Rica live on the internet.

Also search for La pulparía. This is a local sitcom on canal 13 in Costa Rica. It is low budget and easy to follow. I could'nt find it but I'm using my cell phone.

I have another link which offers a choice of dramatic/romantic tv-movies. I don't want to see any of them, but on this same site I very much enjoyed the series on la duquesa de Alba. !Ella es muy encantadora!!!

Can anyone please tell me how to give a link the right way??? Thanks in advance.

to make a link, you first do a "cut, control C" to the link, then you highlight the word in your post which you want people to click, and then hit the "globe" icon on the forum editor, then paste/control V the URL. - JazSpanish, Feb 11, 2012
I entered your link -- hope you don't mind?? :) - territurtle, Feb 12, 2012

Thanks for all of the information on things to watch. I'm going to start right away.

These won't really help you with your Spanish, but has anyone ever went on youtube and watched "que hora es"? There are episodes of this "soap opera" and they are hilarious. They are based on what a soap opera would have to be like if you have 3 weeks of Spanish learning. You should check them out. I understand that there is also a series called "Donde estas" that is on the same premise.

Enjoy!

Que hora es is hilarious, but you are right, it probably won't help learning Spanish. I just cannot forget the scenes. - JazSpanish, Feb 11, 2012

Gran Preguntas. I realize this is an older link but I really enjoyed 'La Teacher de English' on Hulu. Cute plot, not violent, only one naughty girl and the speech varies between beginner to expert. The last episode is disappointing. I wanted it to continue. It's like they had to rush the end of the story.
